First-Year Students

First-year students at Saint Joseph College are given the tools they need to succeed throughout their entire college careers! Students begin with the Common Reading Program, a shared reading and writing assignment that prepares students for the exciting level of learning that goes on in a Saint Joseph College classroom.

All students enroll in the First-Year Seminar, a three-credit course specifically designed to help them transition into all aspects of college life: academic, social and emotional. The seminar teaches essential critical thinking, reading and writing skills; it encourages students to become involved in college-wide activities; and it develops lasting mentoring relationships with faculty members.

Students are also introduced to the academic services that they will use throughout their college careers, including the Center for Academic Excellence, the Academic Advisement Center, and The Pope Pius XII Library.
