Online Seminar: The Great Books Program

Sunday, March 9, 2025 at 4:00 PM until 5:30 PMEastern Daylight Time UTC -04:00

In a twist, students will focus not on a great book in this seminar, but the Great Books program itself. What do we read, why do we read it, and why talk about it? Students will examine our discussion-based curriculum through the same rigorous discussion that we apply to books like Plato's Republic and Darwin's Origin of Species. You can expect the conversation to tackle the intersection between reason and imagination, the role of community in the pursuit of a good life, and the balance between tradition and innovation.

A St. John's Seminar is an hour and a half long virtual event that is led by two current faculty member. It is a great opportunity to join an interactive dialog about a shared text. With cameras and mic on, the seminar will begin with an opening question, then you will engage in dialogue with one another. Join other students who are just as interested in deep questions and thoughtful discussion as you are!

Registration is no longer available because the registration deadline has passed.
